May is all about English asparagus plus the first stone fruit - cherries, apricots and peaches.
The first apricots ‘Colorado’ and early yellow-flesh peaches are already with us.
UK asparagus is peak season and well priced. French wild asparagus just started. White asparagus is French or Dutch. Purple asparagus also available.
Strawberries are also on a whole new level. Annabel's UK crop to start early May. Also Gariguette, Anais, Clery, Ciflorette, Mara de Bois, Frais de Bois, white strawberry, Pineberry.
Peas and broad beans for a classic taste of spring.
Mushrooms include Morels, Mousseron, St George mushrooms.
Purple sprouting broccoli is great quality but dislikes hot weather.
English salads will start this month.
