Not long now until the first UK apples and cobnuts.
UK highlights this month include sweetcorn, salads, bunched carrots, beetroots, salad crops and spring greens. Also soft fruit including strawberries, blueberries, blackberries.
UK courgettes and summer squashes recommended.
Peak season for melons and stone fruit such as Mirabelle plums, greengages, blood peach, blood nectarine, flat peach, apricots, plums. UK cherries are over.
August is a good month for beans, including UK runner beans and bobby beans. From the Continent, fresh Coco de Paimpol and Borlotti.
Sollies black figs from France start later this month.
Provence tomatoes are sensational - grown in the soil and sun.
