1st October 2025

Citrus is exciting this month - just starting, with amazing fruit coming from the South of France, Spain and Italy. The speciality lines are now coming through - we learn something every year. October is also the month when English apples and pears really get going and it has been a once-in-a-generation crop.

For English apples, Cox is already eating well - normally later in October. Also varieties including Norfolk Royal Russet and, at the end of the month, Braeburn. Fantastic French apples from Vassout and Mouneyrac such as Reinette. Fantastic pears - William Green, William Red, Beurre Hardy. Also Kissabel, with its distinctive red flesh. We also recommend Kissabel apples with their distinctive red flesh.

Red-flesh Lovita plums from Moissac near Toulouse.

Figs - Sollies black figs from Provence, finish mid Oct.

Muscat de Hambourg and Chasselas de Moissac grapes.

Lovely squashes starting this month plus carving pumpkins.
