1st September 2025
September is one of the best months - a lot of summer produce is still going strong while autumnal ingredients are just rolling in.
French Sollies figs are simply extraordinary- sticky, sweet and super seasonal.
Plums are at their best. UK varieties this month include the last of the Victoria followed by Marjorie’s Seedling. Also greengage / Reine Claude, Mirabelle and red-flesh.
UK apples are fully underway and growers expect an excellent crop. Discovery are over, followed by Early Windsor, russets, Gala, Cox. Pears are starting, too - Conference followed by Comice.
For grape, we recommend Muscat from France.
Peaches and nectarines still going strong. Melons still eating well.
Squashes just starting - such as Muscade, Onion, Acorn.
UK strawberries from Annabel’s may last as late as October.
UK veg includes sweetcorn, bunched carrots, beetroot, kales.
Brassicas such as tenderstem and cauliflowers are still tight due to dry weather.
