MARKET REPORT FOR APRIL 2023

This is a big month with a pivotal shift into spring and summer produce. We have peas, broad beans, wild garlic, Jersey Royals and the first English asparagus. (Wye Valley is here; our friend and grower Ben Brown on the Isle of Wight tends to start a few weeks later.) White asparagus from the Loire has been selling well. Wild asparagus now coming in. Excellent soil-grown tomatoes from Provence. Strawberries include Mara de Bois and Frais de Bois. Fresh wet almonds from the Lebanon are another key April product, with a jelly-like texture. Italian lines include wet garlic, Romanesco courgettes, puntarelle, radicchios, agretti, cedro, bergamot artichokes. Towards the end of the month, we’re looking forward to the first stone fruit including apricots and peaches.
