MARKET REPORT FOR OCTOBER 2022

Citrus season is just underway with the first Miyagawa clementines. Such lovely colour! Also bergamots, cedro and early green lemons available - amazing essential oils in their skin. Portuguese oranges have started but not yet at their best.

UK apples include Gala, Cox, Russets, plus Conference pears. Large range of French apples from top grower Mouneyrac and pears from Vassout.

For roots, options include parsley root, chervil root, helianthis and Crapaudine beetroot.

Wild mushrooms include Ceps, Chanterelle and Trompette.

For greens, puntarelle, cime di rapa, variegated kales, Cavolo Nero, January King and Savoy. French chicory is excellent. Castel Franco and Tardivo now available once again.

Quince is a good call. Black figs still going - French coming to an end; Turkish Bursa are mid season.

Large range of squashes and gourds.

Nuts include we walnuts and chestnuts - in and out of their shell.

Full-on squashes and ornamental gourds.

From Italy, this is the start of more bitter and classy leafy greens such as puntarelle and cime di rapa.
