MARKET REPORT FOR AUGUST 2023

For stone fruit, Mirabelles and Reine de Claude now available. Apricots are coming to an end. (We even had some English crops this year). Plums are underway. In France, they prize the Quetsche plum - try them for yourself!

Melons are in their prime. (You may have seen my posts from Rungis, when I went on the hunt for the perfect melon).

The first French cobnuts are here. English should be here mid-August.

New crop leafy celeriac is very good.

Black figs are excellent - when we have them - but supply is erratic due to extreme heat in Europe which has been affecting the crop.

The heat has also been detrimental to leafy crops such as rocket. One of our growers reports soil temperatures of around 40C, which affects the plants ability to draw up nutrients from the soil.

English runner beans very good; Coco de Paimpol also on hand. Borlotti coming to an end for now.

English strawberries still very good, along with a huge range of courgettes and tomatoes.
